Hey guys i have been searching comparison charts for weeks now looking back and forth at all the different cubase versions old and new. Which product is best for midi sequencing (SE, SX etc...) And which is going to work out best for multiple audio track recording and mixing ( up to 24 tracks possibly)

Thanks

I can only comment on what I use...

Have been using SX for many years, currently on version 3, and it does a fine job handling both MIDI and Audio. I do prefer editing and mixing in Pro Tools though, but happy enough to do it in SX3 too.

How many tracks can SX do at one time? Real audio, not midi.

Thanks

as far as i know that depends on your hardware.

Absolutely correct. Depends on the specs of your computer. Also depends on whether you are running a lot of plug ins etc... I've never done a 'stress' test with my setup, but in a typical session, say a 4 piece band, I would typically be running 24 tracks without problems, including compression, EQ, and send FX.

Thats what i meant. Did it depend on how many I/O im using or is there a limit. Ive only used LE1 with a 4 track limit(8 with 1.10 update)

Thanks

I don't quite get your question. The number of physical I/O on your audio interface limits you to that number of simultaneous tracks you can record, and the number of tracks you can play back is dependent on your computer specs.

I know forget about the I/O hardware that could be infinite for all i care i know that limits me to physical ins and outs but i was not asking about interfaces! So... In SX if you have hardware with unlimited I/O then you can record unlimited tracks a one time in SX or does it have a track count limit like LE versions is what i meant when i asked how many? If you think its dependent on hardware then there is probably no limit or its 48 or something like that?

Any way thanks for the post

Not sure about that one mate, never been able to track more than 10 at once, since that is what I am limited to in terms of my hardware. The info must be out there somewhere.

You planning on recording an orchestra or something?

Wink

No i just want to know what versions are good for live tracking and which for midi, or both? im tired of trying to look for comparison charts that suck. The reason i asked you about the track limit in SX is because SE, SX seem to be better for midi, where 4 seems to be better for instrument tracking?

SX is great for tracking!

If I were in the market for Cubase, I would just buy the full version 5 (whatever it's called). What are your computer specs?

Very limited! All i have is an ibook G4 1.2 Ghz with 1.25 G Ram and an 120GB 5400rpm HD, OS X 10.3.9. So i most likely wont be using it for tracking. I am despite what people say about they're age getting a powermac G4 MDD dual 1.25Mhz processors and 2GB Ram and osx 10.4. for midi i will probably be using Sx or SE doing very light VST or hardware stuff. And will be using either Reaper or Studio one and Mixing OTB with the studiolive 24.4.2 so i wont need much power since ill be mixing and processing OTB. And then the band i work for owns a macbook Pro i will be using for tracking 16-24 tracks with the studio live either into reaper or studio one? Or cubase 4 or 5? All i remeber for specs on that are dual core a believe and 2 GB ram with osx 10.5, i think it can handle 4GB ram and has enough CPU for just tracking. I might again use SX or SE? Most likely the ibook will be for web browsing and just being able to listen to projects and open files etc...

Thanks
