I have Cubase VST 5 which runs fine on Windows XP.

I want to upgrade to a new PC running Windows 7 64-bit - will my copy of Cubase VST 5 work on this version of W7...?

Many thanks

Thanks for the short and sweet reply - I have loaded it onto Windows 7 and Cubase won't start up...?

Hello magicdog,

If you are using Windows 7 64bit you may encounter problems when trying to install older and not supported Steinberg software on this operating system.

This solution is not guaranteed to work as the products remain unsupported but in most cases this procedure will work:

1. Copy contend of the DVD to empty folder on hard disk
2. Now search for the old Syncrosoft Installer "SyncrosoftLicenseControlSetup.exe " in the newly created folder in which you have copied the content. Once you have found the file "SyncrosoftLicenseControlSetup.exe " delete it.
3. Download the latest eLicenser Control Center from www.elcc.eu
4. Rename the latest eLicenser Control Center installer to "SyncrosoftLicenseControlSetup.exe"
5. Copy the latest eLicenser Control Center Installer that you have renamed to "SyncrosoftLicenseControlSetup.exe" to the folder in which you have deleted the original "SyncrosoftLicenseControlSetup.exe".
6. Start the installation by executing the installer in the newly created folder, mostly this would be Setup.exe

As I've posted here http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=129409 simply installing the latest eLicenser Control Center after the Cubase VST installation should be sufficient. At least that's all I had to do in order to make Cubase VST 5 run on Windows 7 (64 bit).

Great - many thanks, I'll give it a try Smile

Edit - I don't have a dongle with this version of Cubase VST 5 - does that change anything...?

Yes, since that means that you have either a Cubase VST installation disc for Mac or you are using a crack that would make a big difference.
There are no dongleless Cubase VST 5 versions for PC.

Hi

This is a genuine, boxed VST 5 and has never had a dongle...I have the receipt for it...I have used it on Windows XP for three years...?

It's like I wrote, a genuine copy of Cubase VST 5 for PC requires a dongle, a LPT dongle to be exact. So you might have forgotten that it is still connected to the parallel port of your old PC. Or it is not Cubase VST 5 but Cubasis VST 5. The small version had another copy protection scheme.

Sorry my mistake - it is Cubasis VST 5 Embarassed

I assume there is no Windows 7 64-bit compatibility...?
